Onion Salmonella Outbreak

James H. Brown and Associates has filed a class action on behalf of individuals who have been impacted by consuming onions possibly contaminated with Salmonella.

James H. Brown and Associates has filed a class action on behalf of individuals who have been impacted by consuming onions possibly contaminated with Salmonella.

On July 30, 2020, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency issued a recall notice regarding onions imported from the United States by Sysco in Western Canada. The recall was updated on August 7, 2020 to include various products made with onions grown by Thomson International Inc. The raw onions or recalled products could have been consumed in places such as restaurants, cafeterias, hospitals, or nursing homes, or purchased online or from grocery vendors. The investigation is ongoing, as illnesses continue to be reported to the Public Health Agency of Canada. Since August 21, 2020, there have been 78 additional illnesses reported in Canada. Currently, there are more than 450 confirmed cases in Canada.

Food containing salmonella does not always look or smell spoiled but can still make you very ill and may include symptoms such as nausea, abdominal cramps and diarrhea. Young children, pregnant women, the elderly, and people with weakened immune systems are particularly vulnerable to serious and sometimes fatal complications from food poisoning.

If you may have experienced food poisoning, or know somebody who has, from consuming the contaminated onions, please contact the class action lawyers at James H. Brown and Associates at the form below or at (780) 428-0088.
